Messmate stringybark (Eucalyptus obliqua) Painting by Stan Kelly
Shinran Shônin (1173-1263) was the founder of Shin Buddhism. He revered the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and the seven Dharma Masters. Through his writings, especially the Hymns, he made these teachings accessible to everyone.
You can read about the life of Shinran here.
The Collected Works of Shinran (two volumes), published by Jôdo Shinshû Hongwanji-ha, is an invaluable resource. We are very privileged to have Shinran Shônin's writings available to us in such an excellent and reliable English translation.
