The Nishi Hongwanji in Kyoto, is the head temple of the worldwide community of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha (school of Shin Buddhism). It was established in 1272.
Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha has approximately 10,400 affiliated temples and 33,550 ordained ministers. It is one of a total of ten independent schools of Shin Buddhism.
